Mina Casey

Mina Casey has emerged as a leader in the SCEC neighborhood and she is particularly inspired by her ambition to improve things for herself, her family, and her community. She has lived in Philadelphia all her life and lost her husband in an auto accident leaving her to raise their three sons by herself. The tragedy of this loss was expressed in the first few works of art Mina executed at the Art Center. Through painting, she worked to transform her anger, rage, and sorrow into strong imagery. Her work since then has been an attempt to illustrate her dream of achieving "harmony, unity, and peace."
