Art
Outreach Program
A completely accessible and FREE art and educational workshop
offered to Philadelphia school classes, youth groups and community
organizations. The Esther M. Klein Art Gallery provides round-trip
bus transportation, gallery tours, creative art workshops facilitated
by local practicing artists and a healthy lunch provided by
one of the Art Outreach Program sponsors, Whole Foods Market,
Inc. Repeat visits are encouraged and all participating students
have the unique opportunity to exhibit their artwork in the
annual Klein Gallery Art Outreach Exhibit. Over 270 schools
and community groups to date have participated in the Art Outreach
Program.
Intergenerational Program
This program represents a special partnership between the Klein
Gallery and NewCourtland Elder Services. NewCourtland facilities
provide long term care to frail elders in the Philadelphia area.
The Klein Gallery Intergenerational Program aims to combat the
three plagues associated with long-term care living: loneliness,
helplessness and boredom. The Intergenerational Program pairs
Philadelphia schools students with senior groups from NewCourtland
Elder Care facilities in a year-long series of creative art
workshops that aim to build intergenerational relationships
in a structured creative arts environment. This program involves
a series of repeat visits and therefore requires an extended
commitment from participating schools and youth groups. Student
participation in a dynamic and instructive sensitivity training
session is also required. All program-related activities are
FREE to participating groups.
Artist in the Community Series
The Klein Gallery invites Philadelphia artists to work with
a local community in an organized creative art project that
takes place over a 3-8 week period. A scheduled Klein Gallery
exhibit accompanies this program featuring a solo exhibition
opportunity for the participating artist in conjunction with
the presentation of the completed artwork resulting from the
Art in the Community collaboration.
Internship Program
The Klein Gallery works with local art schools and universities
to set up valuable experiences for student interns interested
in pursuing careers in art, art administration, and art education.
